Las Palmas Maritime Captaincy has deactivated the National Maritime Plan after completing this Wednesday the extraction and sealing tasks of the Russian fishing vessel Oleg Naydenov, which sank on April 14 15 miles (27 kilometers) south of Maspalomas (Gran Canaria).
The Secretary General of Transport, Carmen Librero, chaired this Thursday the meeting of the coordination committee of the emergency caused by the sinking of the trawler, in which the deactivation of the National Maritime Plan was reported at the end of the extraction of fuel and the sealing of the wreck, as reported by Salvamento MarĂtimo (SM) in a statement.
At the meeting, held at the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas, the Country Email List actions carried out were detailed and the development of the work to extract fuel from the ship and the definitive sealing of the existing leaks were reported.
It has also been reported that the technical committee, meeting this Thursday, has ended the emergency and deactivated the National Maritime Plan, which was in the level I emergency phase.
As a preventive measure, Maritime Rescue has planned a surveillance program via space, air, maritime and underwater in which both the satellites of the European Maritime Safety Agency and units and a Maritime Rescue robot will participate.
The public society for rescue and combating maritime pollution has begun tasks to adapt its underwater resources so that they can reach 3,000 meters deep.
In addition, at the meeting the members of the committee were informed of the award by the European Maritime Safety Agency of the contract for an anti-pollution vessel for the Canary Islands area and that it will reinforce the resources available in the area, according to the statement.
